Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) was developed by Pat Ogden to treat trauma and attachment issues in clients. This form of psychotherapy involves a mindfulness approach to accessing a persons outer limits of their arousal.

Right before someone is traumatized and responds to the trauma, there is a lot of energy that gets stored and locked in the body. SP helps individuals release and stay with this energy as it surfaces in their body.

By connecting cognitive, emotional and somatic indicators linked to the trauma in the present moment, clients can be mindful with their original trauma. The goal is transformation from the original trauma response that will release the energy stored in the body and successfully lead to new, healthier trauma responses.

There is a lot of well known professionals that support SP, including Kekuni Minton MD, Bessel van der Kolk MD, Stephen Porges PhD, Beatrice Beebee PhD, and more. Visit https://sensorimotorpsychotherapy.org to learn more.
